Some
of our Groups
| The
Riot Grrlzzz.
Are you a woman who's looking for some fun, friendship and a chance
to help the church and community? This group is for you. The Riot
Grrllzz is a group of women who are younger than sixty ( mostly),
and get together monthly to share their lives, have some fun, get
to know God, and organize some of the church's most popular events.
The 'Grrllzz' have an annual weekend retreat, run the annual Wine
and Cheese silent auction fundraiser, and the annual second hand clothing
fashion show. They're fun and always have room for more members. Contact
Debra Kobe for more information at

| U.C.W.
This is the traditional group for women at the
United Church. It, too, is thriving, and includes many women who have
been members at the church for decades. The membership tends to be
older, but don't count them out. Each year they organize events like
the annual basement sale that raises funds for the church, and paid
for repairs to the church's stained glass windows. |
| The
Couch Boyzz/Property Committee. This is the
church's men's group. How do you get men to gather to talk about church
stuff? Get them to have meetings while watching sports on t.v., and
give them something practical to do. That's what's brought the Couch
Boyzz together - they hang out, watch sports, and do all the repairs
on the church building. They also help the Riot Grrllzz with events
like the annual Wine and Cheese night. ( Okay, this part of their
activities has led some people to call them the 'Yes Dears'! ) Fun,
friendly and not terribly serious. Being intimidated by these guys
is just not possible. All men are welcome. |
| Youth
Group. This one is for kids. After many Sunday
services, a group of dedicated adults get the kids of the church together
to hold fundraisers like car washes and bake sales, or go out bowling,
skating or to a play. The group tends to include kids who are six
and older. Fun is the name of the game. |
| God
Talk. Every Saturday at noon, Reverend Dr Cheri
DiNovo leads a discussion group about - what else?- God. Over the
years, the group has evolved into a friendly, open meeting where people
talk about what makes sense and confuses them about Christianity.
They read books, talk about sermons, read the Bible - whatever it
takes to get a deeper understanding of God. If you're looking to delve
deeper into the faith, this a great place to start, and don't worry
about asking dumb questions. That's where all the interesting answers
come from. For more info, contact Cheri at hwrdprk@idirect.com |
| Church
History Group. Once a month, this group gets together
to talk about the history of Christianity. Our one rule: all heretical
opinions are permitted. The group tends to base their dicussions on
readings. This year it was Thomas Cahill's history of the Gospels,
Desire of the Everlasting Hills. If you're wondering how Christ's
message was translated into real life, and whether history can help
you understand it, this is the group for you. Contact Stephen for
